Algeria’s Condor Ships First Air Conditioners to Spain, Marking Breakthrough into European Market

Algeria has achieved a new industrial export milestone as Condor launched its first shipment of portable air conditioners to Spain, opening the door to the European market amid soaring demand driven by extreme heatwaves. Officials say export orders have already exceeded 250,000 units, underscoring growing confidence in the quality and competitiveness of Algerian-made products.

ALGIERS, Algeria — Algeria has taken a significant step toward expanding its non-hydrocarbon exports after launching the first shipment of Condor-branded portable air conditioners to Europe, marking the company’s official entry into the Spanish market and reinforcing the country’s ambitions to position its industrial products on the international stage.

The inaugural export operation was overseen on Tuesday by Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Kamel Rezig, accompanied by Bordj Bou Arreridj Governor Kamel Nouicer, at Condor’s logistics platform in eastern Algeria.

The first shipment, destined for Spain, fulfills an initial commercial order placed by major European purchasing centers for portable air-conditioning units. At the same time, the minister also supervised the export of split air-conditioning systems to neighboring Tunisia.

In total, the operation comprised 46 containers of air-conditioning units, while Rezig revealed that Condor has already secured export requests exceeding 250,000 portable air conditioners, highlighting growing international demand for Algerian-manufactured products.

European heatwave fuels demand

The breakthrough comes as Southern Europe experiences an exceptional heatwave, placing significant pressure on retailers in countries such as Spain, France and Italy, where shortages of portable air conditioners have emerged.

With delivery times from Asian manufacturers exceeding five weeks, Algeria’s geographical proximity has become a decisive competitive advantage, enabling European distributors to source products within just two days by sea.

Mohamed Salah Daas, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Condor Group, said major European purchasing centers had approached the company to secure portable air-conditioning units in response to the supply shortage.

He added that Condor has already initiated procedures to register its trademark and obtain European conformity certifications, with the required technical documentation submitted to the relevant authorities in Spain, France and Italy.

Algeria strengthens its industrial export ambitions

Minister Rezig said the decision by leading European purchasing centers to source Algerian products reflects growing confidence in the capabilities of the country’s manufacturing sector.

He stressed that the exported products fully comply with European standards for quality, safety and performance, enabling them to compete successfully in demanding international markets.

The minister also underlined that Algeria’s proximity to Europe provides a major logistical advantage, allowing manufacturers to respond rapidly to market needs while offering significantly shorter delivery times than competitors located in Asia.

The latest operation forms part of Algeria’s broader strategy to diversify exports beyond hydrocarbons, strengthen industrial competitiveness and expand the presence of Made in Algeria products across regional and international markets.
