ALGIERS — Algeria’s nationwide cleanup campaign continued for a third consecutive day on Saturday, with operations extending across provinces throughout the country as authorities step up efforts to improve environmental conditions and public spaces.
The campaign is being carried out under instructions from Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud, who called for greater field mobilization, improved environmental cleanliness and better living conditions for citizens, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport.
Operations cover residential neighbourhoods, streets, public squares, sidewalks, green spaces and areas surrounding roads, alongside cleaning work along national highways and provincial roads.
Teams are also carrying out drainage and sewer maintenance, including the clearing of stormwater drains and sanitation networks, while removing accumulated waste and other debris from public areas.
The campaign brings together local services, public institutions, municipalities, citizens and civil society associations, reflecting a broad-based effort to maintain cleaner urban environments and improve the appearance of cities.
The ministry said the continued mobilization is intended not only to address accumulated waste and neglected public spaces but also to reinforce a culture of environmental cleanliness and shared responsibility among local authorities and residents.
