Algeria’s People’s National Assembly Approves Membership Validation Committee Ahead of Speaker Election
The People’s National Assembly (PNA) approved the list of members of the committee responsible for validating the mandates of newly elected lawmakers, paving the way for the formal confirmation of parliamentary membership and the election of the Assembly’s new Speaker.

ALGIERS, Algeria — Algeria’s People’s National Assembly (PNA) on Tuesday approved the list of members of the Committee for the Validation of Parliamentary Membership, marking a key procedural step before the official confirmation of newly elected lawmakers and the election of the Speaker of the lower house of Parliament.
The committee’s composition was adopted following the roll call of deputies elected in the 2 July 2026 legislative elections, in accordance with the final results proclaimed by the Constitutional Court.
Comprising 30 members, the committee is tasked with examining the credentials of newly elected lawmakers and preparing the official report validating their parliamentary membership. The report is scheduled to be submitted for approval during the afternoon plenary session, which will also include the election of the new Speaker of the People’s National Assembly.
The opening session of the 10th legislative term was chaired by Abdelkader Bellahssen, the oldest newly elected deputy, assisted by the two youngest members of the Assembly, Abdeldjalil Faghouli and Belghith Abdellah Nadhir, in accordance with parliamentary procedure.
In his opening address, Bellahssen stressed that the People’s National Assembly is called upon to further consolidate the traditions of serious parliamentary work, strengthen democratic practice, and promote a culture of dialogue and mutual respect.
The inaugural session marks the formal launch of the People’s National Assembly’s tenth legislature, which is expected to begin its legislative and oversight functions following the completion of procedural formalities, including the validation of members’ mandates and the election of the Assembly’s new leadership.
