ALGIERS, Algeria — Algerian Minister of the Interior, Local Assemblies and Transport Saïd Sayoud held talks on Monday with Ali Al-Ali, Chairman of the Board of the Algeria-Qatar Baladna partnership project, to assess the implementation of one of Algeria’s largest strategic agri-food investments and review the logistical arrangements required to ensure its successful execution.
The meeting, held at the Government Palace, focused on monitoring the project’s progress and addressing logistical issues, particularly those related to the transport sector, to facilitate the smooth implementation of the large-scale dairy investment.
During the meeting, Sayoud reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing all necessary support and coordination mechanisms to ensure the project’s timely completion and operational success.
He stressed that the Ministry of the Interior would continue to facilitate administrative procedures and logistical coordination while ensuring continuous monitoring throughout the project’s different phases.
For his part, Ali Al-Ali expressed appreciation for the support extended by the Algerian authorities, praising the government’s commitment to creating favourable conditions for the successful implementation of the project.
Both sides also highlighted the strength of Algeria-Qatar relations, noting that the Baladna partnership reflects the growing strategic cooperation between the two countries across key economic sectors.
The Baladna Algeria project, implemented through a partnership between Qatar’s Baladna Company and Algeria’s National Investment Fund (FNI), represents one of the country’s largest agricultural investments.
Spanning approximately 117,000 hectares, the integrated dairy farming project is expected, over the long term, to accommodate 270,000 head of cattle and produce around 194,000 tonnes of milk powder annually, in addition to more than 250 dairy and agri-food products during subsequent development phases.
With total investments estimated at $3.5 billion, the project is designed to cover approximately 50 percent of Algeria’s domestic milk powder demand, significantly reduce import dependency, strengthen national food security and support the country’s broader strategy of agricultural self-sufficiency.
The project is also expected to generate more than 15,000 jobs during its construction phase while creating additional employment opportunities once production reaches full capacity.
The initiative forms part of Algeria’s wider efforts to diversify its economy, attract strategic foreign investment and develop sustainable agri-food industries capable of enhancing national production and long-term food security.
