Algiers Police Dismantle Document Forgery Network, 11 Arrested
By Dr. Hana Saada
Algiers security services, through the judicial police unit of the Sidi M’hamed administrative district, have dismantled a criminal network involved in forgery and the use of falsified administrative documents, arresting 11 individuals, including five women.
According to a statement from the security services, the investigation was launched following intelligence indicating the existence of forged civil status documents, particularly birth certificates, within a municipal civil registry office in the capital.
Subsequent field investigations enabled authorities to identify the methods used in the forgery scheme and recover several falsified documents linked to the case. These included birth certificates and nationality documents that were used to obtain other official papers, including passports issued to foreign nationals.
Expanding the inquiry led to the identification and arrest of all suspects, along with the seizure of 11 forged biometric passports, 16 counterfeit nationality certificates, three fake biometric identity cards, two falsified driving licences, and two forged property documents.
Following completion of legal procedures, the suspects were presented before the public prosecutor at the Sidi M’hamed tribunal for prosecution in accordance with the law.
