Algiers Port Efficiency and Modernisation Drive Advanced as Interior Minister Reviews Operations and Infrastructure Works

Algeria’s Interior Minister, Saïd Sayoud, conducted an inspection visit to the Port of Algiers on Monday morning to assess operational performance, port efficiency and overall management standards, according to an official statement.
The minister began his visit at commercial quays 18, 19, 20 and 21, where he reviewed container handling productivity and storage capacity utilisation rates. He issued strict instructions to accelerate vessel unloading and departure processes and to reduce ship dwell time at berths in order to improve traffic flow and operational efficiency.
At quay 17, currently undergoing upgrading works, Sayoud called for accelerated completion within set deadlines, stressing its strategic importance in expanding operational space and accommodating rising economic activity. He also instructed that the passenger terminal quay be delivered ahead of the summer season to ensure readiness for peak traffic.
As part of a broader push toward greener port infrastructure, the minister ordered the acceleration of electrification of quays to reduce emissions from vessels berthed within the urban area.
Sayoud said recent improvements in port performance indicators and reduced vessel turnaround times reflect continuous field monitoring and regular inspections. He urged further mobilisation of efforts to enhance port efficiency, strengthen cleanliness standards and upgrade signalling systems on a regular basis, with the aim of consolidating the port’s role as a strategic economic and urban gateway.
