Cuba’s ambassador to Algeria, Hector Igarza, continued a working visit to El Oued on Thursday with a second day focused on the health sector, including an inspection of the Cuban medical mission deployed in the province.
Accompanied by the head of the Cuban medical brigade and local health officials, the delegation visited the Taleb Larbi public health facility (EPSP), where it assessed operations and the impact of Cuban medical cooperation in the region.
During the visit, the “Manuel Fajardo” medal was awarded to healthcare professional Dayami Valdez Pérez in recognition of her contribution to the mission.
The visit reflects a long-standing bilateral relationship rooted in political and human solidarity, particularly in health and training. Cuban cooperation in Algeria has centred on direct support to local healthcare systems, with medical personnel deployed to underserved areas and efforts aimed at strengthening local capacity and improving access to care.
Amid a more fragmented international environment, such partnerships point to forms of cooperation based on technical exchange and mutual support rather than purely commercial considerations.
The visit underlines the continued relevance of Algeria–Cuba ties, anchored in practical cooperation with direct impact on public services.
