Energy and Public Works Ministries Tighten Coordination to Unblock Major Railway Projects in Algeria
BY Dr. Hana Saada
Algeria’s Energy and Renewable Energies Minister Mourad Adjal and Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Minister Abdelkader Djellaoui held a coordination meeting in Algiers on Sunday to review and address a series of joint dossiers linked to major structural railway projects, according to a joint statement.
The meeting forms part of the monitoring of strategic infrastructure projects decided by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the statement said.
Discussions focused on technical intersections between electricity and gas networks and new railway lines, with particular attention to the eastern mining railway line and the planned Algiers–Tamanrasset corridor, including its extensions towards Ghardaïa and In Salah.
Held in the presence of senior officials from Sonelgaz, ANESRIF, and central administrations, the meeting also included local public works directors from eastern and southern wilayas, who contributed assessments of field-level constraints.
The ministers noted progress in resolving network interferences along the Annaba–Tébessa mining railway, which has helped accelerate works on what is considered a key infrastructure for the national mining sector.
A new coordination mechanism was also introduced to map all technical crossing points along the Laghouat–Ghardaïa–El Meniaa–In Salah–Tamanrasset axis, aimed at anticipating constraints and ensuring timely project delivery.
Both ministers praised what they described as strengthened intersectoral cooperation, issuing instructions to further reinforce coordination in order to address logistical challenges and advance the modernisation of Algeria’s railway network.
