Algeria and Poland agreed to step up bilateral cooperation and accelerate institutional mechanisms during talks in Algiers between Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski, who is also deputy prime minister, according to an official statement.

The meeting, held in both one-on-one and expanded formats, reviewed progress since Attaf’s visit to Poland in June 2024 and assessed the state of bilateral relations.

Both sides emphasised the need to deepen the partnership through the activation of the joint intergovernmental commission, tasked with advancing cooperation in hydrocarbons, mining, renewable energy, agriculture, tourism and digitalisation, while exploring new opportunities based on the two countries’ respective capacities.

Discussions also covered regional and international issues, including developments in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Sahel-Sahara region.

At the close of talks, the two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding between Algeria’s Institute of Diplomacy and International Relations (IDRI) and the Polish Diplomatic Academy.
