Algeria and Poland have discussed new avenues of industrial and energy cooperation, including hydrocarbons, petrochemicals and low-carbon technologies, during talks in Algiers between Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab and Poland’s Deputy Minister of State Assets Grzegorz Wrona, according to a ministry statement.

The meeting, attended by Sonatrach CEO Noureddine Daoudi and representatives of Polish groups Azoty and Orlen, focused on expanding partnership opportunities between Sonatrach and Polish companies across the oil and gas value chain, including refining, petrochemicals and equipment manufacturing.

Both sides reviewed proposed joint ventures in Algeria, notably methanol and melamine production units, a phosphoric acid facility, and green ammonia projects using advanced technologies aimed at reducing carbon intensity and supporting energy transition objectives.

Discussions also covered cooperation in energy logistics and commercialisation, including potential coordination for LNG and LPG marketing via Orlen’s infrastructure, as well as broader cooperation in international petroleum product trading.

Water desalination was also identified as a potential field of cooperation, with Algeria expressing interest in Polish technological solutions to improve efficiency and support ongoing expansion of desalination capacity.

Arkab underlined the importance of technology transfer, industrial modernisation and skills development, stressing Algeria’s openness to deepening cooperation with Polish expertise in refining and petrochemicals. Both sides agreed to intensify coordination to translate proposals into concrete investment projects.

Wrona, for his part, expressed Poland’s interest in strengthening energy and industrial cooperation with Algeria, highlighting opportunities in hydrocarbons, petrochemicals and fertilisers, and reaffirmed support for expanding ties between Polish companies and Sonatrach.
