Algeria Activates Hajj 2026 Monitoring Commission to Streamline Pilgrim Coordination and Support Services
BY Dr. Hana Saada
Algeria’s Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi, has installed the national monitoring commission for the 1447–2026 Hajj season in Algiers, establishing a structured mechanism to coordinate pilgrimage operations, address citizens’ concerns, and reinforce communication between domestic authorities and the field mission in Saudi Arabia.
The commission is mandated to respond to public inquiries, reassure families regarding pilgrims’ conditions, and ensure continuous information exchange through dedicated communication channels, including a telephone hotline, fax service and email support.
Authorities said the mechanism is designed to serve as a central liaison platform between Algerian citizens and pilgrims in the holy cities of Mecca, Medina and Jeddah, improving the flow and reliability of operational updates throughout the pilgrimage period.
A dedicated hotline (023.48.44.23) and email address (hadj@marw.dz) have been activated to process requests and concerns, with a permanent service unit tasked with ensuring rapid response during the operational peak of the Hajj season.
Belmehdi also announced that he will supervise, later on Wednesday evening, the departure of the first group of pilgrims to Medina, in the presence of senior government officials.
In parallel, preparatory teams from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, other state bodies and the National Office of Hajj and Umrah (ONPO) have already been deployed to Saudi Arabia to finalise logistical arrangements ahead of the arrival of Algerian pilgrims.
The initiative forms part of Algeria’s annual Hajj operational framework aimed at strengthening coordination, reducing administrative friction and ensuring the smooth management of one of the country’s largest organised religious mobilisations.
