Judges’ Sports Club Chief Says Success of 2026 Tournament Paves Way for Future Super Cup

Mohamed Nadjib Meratla says the second edition of the Judges’ Cup has built on last year’s experience, with organisers considering the launch of a Super Cup and broader competitions in the coming years.

The President of Algeria’s National Judges’ Sports Club, Mohamed Nadjib Meratla, said the second edition of the Judges’ Cup had been a success in terms of organisation, participation and technical standards, adding that organisers are already considering expanding the competition through the creation of a Judges’ Super Cup.

Speaking after the conclusion of the tournament, Meratla said the primary objective of the competition was to strengthen ties within Algeria’s judicial community while promoting sport as part of the sector’s institutional culture.

“As you have seen, we organised the Judges’ Cup final for the second consecutive year,” he said. “The event benefited from strong organisation and close cooperation among various state institutions, particularly as the final was hosted at a stadium belonging to the People’s National Army, which gave the occasion a distinctive character and contributed to its success.”

Meratla said the final attracted several prominent figures from the sporting community and noted that both finalists were coached by former international footballers, reflecting what he described as the growing standard of the competition.

He also praised the media coverage of the event, describing the press as an essential partner in ensuring the success of such initiatives.

“The media help convey the true image of the competition and evaluate the quality of its organisation,” he said, adding that organisers welcome constructive feedback aimed at improving future editions.

Plans for Expansion

Meratla said organisers had drawn valuable lessons from the inaugural edition of the tournament, allowing them to improve this year’s competition.

“We gained significant experience from last season and intend to further enhance the organisation in future editions,” he said. “Among the ideas under consideration are the creation of a Super Cup, sector-based competitions, and potentially regional or even international tournaments that would broaden participation and give the competition a wider dimension.”

He also acknowledged the support provided by the Ministry of Sports, led by Sports Minister Walid Sadi, saying the ministry had made the necessary resources available to ensure the tournament’s successful organisation.

According to Meratla, the competition began in November with the participation of 32 teams representing judicial councils from across Algeria before culminating in Saturday’s final.

He added that the decisive match was played under favourable conditions and attracted a sizeable crowd, including many families, whose attendance contributed to what he described as a festive atmosphere.

The comments come after the Tipaza Court of Appeal secured the 2026 Judges’ Cup title by defeating the M’Sila Court of Appeal 2-1 in the final, an event during which Justice Minister Lotfi Boudjemaa praised the tournament’s growing role in promoting sportsmanship, professional cohesion and teamwork within Algeria’s judicial sector.
