National Unity, Calls for a Strong Parliament Dominate Fourth Day of Algeria’s Legislative Election Campaign
By Dr. Hana Saada
ALGIERS — Algeria’s legislative election campaign entered its fourth day on Friday with party leaders placing national unity, institutional consolidation and the election of a strong representative parliament at the centre of their political messaging ahead of the July 2 vote.
Through public rallies and grassroots outreach activities across several provinces, political leaders reiterated commitments to preserving national cohesion, supporting ongoing development efforts and strengthening citizens’ representation through an effective legislative institution capable of addressing public concerns.
Speaking at a rally in Tiaret, National Democratic Rally (RND) Secretary-General Mounder Bouden highlighted what he described as the enduring national solidarity binding Algerians together, arguing that the difficult periods experienced by the country reinforce the importance of safeguarding national constants and strengthening attachment to the nation.
Bouden also outlined one of his party’s institutional proposals, advocating the establishment of a legal framework for regular coordination meetings between national and local elected representatives. According to him, such a mechanism would contribute to the development of coordinated development strategies involving all stakeholders.
In Djelfa, El Mostakbel Front President Fateh Boutbig called for broad participation in the upcoming legislative elections, describing the election of a “strong parliament” as essential for sustaining the country’s development trajectory. He argued that the next legislature should play a central role in shaping Algeria’s future and supporting the objectives associated with the country’s ongoing transformation agenda.
Boutbig further portrayed the election as an opportunity to strengthen national cohesion, urging voters to support candidates capable of carrying citizens’ concerns into the National People’s Assembly and serving as effective representatives of local interests.
From Batna, Tajamou Amel El Djazaïr (TAJ) President Fatima-Zohra Zerouati stressed the significance of the forthcoming vote, encouraging citizens to support competent candidates capable of faithfully conveying public concerns within state institutions.
Zerouati also explained her preference for proximity campaigning and direct engagement with citizens, arguing that face-to-face interaction remains the most effective means of building trust with voters during electoral campaigns.
Meanwhile, during a public meeting in Tipaza, Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) President Abdelali Hassani Cherif stated that his party remains committed to what he described as a consistent political project rooted in national values, citizenship and historical continuity.
In Blida, Voice of the People Party President Lamine Osmani described participation in the July legislative elections as a civic responsibility, calling for broad mobilisation and urging voters to select candidates capable of effectively defending citizens’ interests and concerns.
For his part, Socialist Forces Front (FFS) First Secretary Youcef Aouchiche, speaking during the launch of his party’s campaign in Algiers, said the FFS was entering the elections with what he characterised as an ambitious political programme focused on strengthening institutions through greater popular participation.
Aouchiche further expressed confidence in his party’s electoral prospects, arguing that the mobilisation of party activists and candidates could enable the FFS to emerge as a significant force in the forthcoming vote.
As campaigning continues across the country, themes of national unity, institutional effectiveness, citizen representation and parliamentary strength are increasingly emerging as common threads among competing political formations seeking to persuade voters ahead of Algeria’s July 2 legislative elections.
