Sonelgaz Exports 200 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations to Portugal
The latest shipment, manufactured by Sonelgaz subsidiary SAIEG, forms part of a contract to export 450 electric vehicle charging stations to Europe, highlighting Algeria’s growing industrial capabilities and expanding non-hydrocarbon exports.

ALGIERS – Algeria’s Algerian Electrical and Gas Industries Company (SAIEG), a subsidiary of state-owned energy group Sonelgaz, has exported 200 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to Portugal as part of a broader strategy to expand the country’s industrial exports to European markets.
The charging stations were manufactured at SAIEG’s production facilities in El Eulma, Setif Province, under a commercial agreement with international marketing company Auras International, which provides for the phased export of 450 charging stations to several European countries.
The shipment marks the second export operation conducted under the partnership, following a successful 2024 transaction in which 435 charging stations were delivered to Libya and Italy.
Speaking on the occasion, SAIEG Chief Executive Officer Defdaf said the latest export reflects the growing expertise of Algeria’s public industrial enterprises in manufacturing advanced electrical equipment capable of competing in international markets.
He noted that the initiative supports Algeria’s efforts to diversify its economy by expanding non-hydrocarbon exports, while showcasing decades of accumulated industrial know-how and the competitiveness of locally manufactured products that comply with international quality standards.
58% Local Integration Rate
Defdaf revealed that the EV charging stations currently achieve a 58% local integration rate, adding that the figure is expected to increase as the company strengthens cooperation with domestic suppliers and subcontractors as part of its industrial development strategy.
The Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies also welcomed the operation, describing it as another milestone in Sonelgaz’s growing international footprint.
According to the ministry’s Director of Information and Communication, the export builds on Sonelgaz’s broader international expansion, which already includes electricity exports, technical training for foreign specialists, and the construction of power generation facilities across several African countries.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Auras International, headquartered in Hong Kong, attributed the continued partnership to the strong reputation earned by Algerian-made electrical equipment in overseas markets, noting that the products meet internationally recognized technical standards.
The Secretary-General of the National Federation of Electricity and Gas Industry Workers (FNTIEG) also praised Sonelgaz and its subsidiaries for ensuring reliable domestic energy services while simultaneously producing high-quality industrial equipment that contributes to boosting Algeria’s exports beyond the hydrocarbons sector.
The latest shipment underscores Algeria’s ambition to position itself as a competitive regional manufacturing hub for energy and electrical technologies while reinforcing the country’s strategy of increasing value-added industrial exports to international markets.
