Algeria, Belgium Courts Move to Deepen Constitutional Cooperation

President of the Constitutional Court Leïla Aslaoui met on Monday in Algiers with Yasmine Kherbache of Belgium’s Constitutional Court to explore avenues for institutional cooperation.

Talks focused on building structured links between the two courts, with an emphasis on exchanging best practices in the protection of rights and freedoms and reinforcing judicial independence, according to a court statement.

The meeting, held at the court’s headquarters and attended by its members, comes ahead of the third international conference on constitutional review and its role in safeguarding rights in Algeria and comparative systems. Discussions also addressed aligning approaches to constitutional oversight and establishing practical channels of cooperation in support of the rule of law.

Ms Kherbache toured the court’s main facilities, including the courtroom, deliberation chambers, library and museum space.
