Algeria, Benin Reaffirm Commitment to Deepening Strategic Partnership and Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

COTONOU — Algeria and Benin have reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and elevating their strategic partnership across a range of priority sectors, while pledging closer coordination on regional security and international issues during high-level talks held in Cotonou.
The discussions took place on Thursday between Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and Benin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Corinne Amori Brunet, as part of Attaf’s official visit to the West African country.
According to a statement issued by Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation and explored avenues for expanding collaboration in line with the political will expressed by the leadership of both countries to elevate Algerian-Beninese relations to a higher level.
The ministers identified several priority sectors for enhanced cooperation, including energy, agriculture, pharmaceutical industries and vocational training, reflecting the growing ambition to diversify and deepen economic ties between the two countries.
To translate these objectives into concrete action, both sides underscored the importance of activating existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, notably through convening the next session of the Algerian-Beninese Joint Commission at the earliest opportunity, as well as holding the inaugural meeting of the Algerian-Beninese Business Council.
The two ministers said these institutional mechanisms would inject fresh momentum into bilateral economic, commercial and investment relations while enabling both countries to capitalize more effectively on their respective economic potential and emerging investment opportunities.
Beyond bilateral cooperation, Attaf and Brunet reaffirmed the importance of maintaining close consultation and coordination within regional and multilateral organisations, particularly the African Union, on issues of common concern.
Their discussions also covered a range of regional and international developments, with particular attention devoted to the evolving security situation across the Sahel-Saharan region and ongoing developments in the Middle East.
Both ministers reiterated the importance of strengthening peace, security and stability within their shared regional environment, stressing that international crises and conflicts should be addressed in accordance with the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
They further emphasized that dialogue and peaceful means remain the only viable path toward resolving regional and international disputes, reaffirming their countries’ commitment to multilateral cooperation and rules-based diplomacy.
