Petković: Switzerland Outplayed Us and I Expect Them to Reach the Quarter-finals
By Dr. Hana Saada
Algiers – Algeria head coach Vladimir Petković acknowledged Switzerland’s superiority following his side’s 2–0 defeat, stating that the European team deserved the victory after producing the stronger performance throughout the match.
Speaking after the final whistle, Petković admitted that Algeria had fallen short of expectations and credited Switzerland’s experience on the international stage as a decisive factor in the outcome.
“We did not achieve the result everyone had hoped for. Switzerland were the better team on the pitch and possess extensive experience in major international competitions,” he said.
The Algerian coach noted that Switzerland’s regular participation in major international tournaments has enabled the team to build considerable experience and maintain a consistently competitive standard.
“Switzerland regularly competes in the world’s major football tournaments, which has given the team significant international experience,” Petković added.
Looking ahead to the remainder of the competition, Petković expressed confidence in Switzerland’s prospects, describing the team as the leading contender to progress from the group and advance to the quarter-finals.
“I am convinced that Switzerland are the strongest favourites to secure qualification and reach the quarter-finals,” he said.
