Algeria, Chad Advance Trans-Saharan Highway Cooperation During Djellaoui Visit to N’Djamena
By Dr. Hana Saada
Algerian Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Abdelkader Djellaoui began a two-day visit to Chad on Wednesday, leading a high-level delegation focused on advancing joint infrastructure projects, notably the Trans-Saharan Highway.
The visit follows directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and builds on discussions held during the Chadian president’s recent trip to Algeria, underscoring both sides’ push to translate bilateral cooperation into operational projects.
Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development, was received in N’Djamena by Chadian Infrastructure Minister Amir Idriss Kourda and senior officials.
The delegation includes more than 14 engineers and experts, alongside executives from Cosider, the National Company of Public Works (SNTP), and the National Technical Control Authority for Public Works, for a second technical mission aimed at finalising field assessments.
Talks in N’Djamena centre on the concrete implementation of two priority sections of the Trans-Saharan Highway on Chadian territory, key segments of the continental corridor linking North and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Algeria reaffirmed readiness to deploy its technical expertise in large-scale desert infrastructure projects, framing the highway as a strategic corridor expected to boost regional connectivity and trade flows.
The visit is expected to produce operational decisions strengthening Algerian–Chadian cooperation in infrastructure delivery.
