N’Djamena — Algeria and Chad signed on Thursday in N’Djamena an agreement providing a series of facilitation measures aimed at accelerating the implementation of joint cooperation projects in the fields of public works and infrastructure.

According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, the agreement is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral partnership and expedite the execution of accords signed in April.

The agreement was signed by Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Abdelkader Djellaoui and Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Territorial Opening-Up and Road Maintenance Amir Idriss Kourda, on the sidelines of a coordination meeting held during the second day of the Algerian delegation’s working visit to Chad.

The meeting also brought together the Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development, the Algerian ambassador to Chad, as well as senior executives from Cosider and the National Company of Public Works (SNTP). On the Chadian side, the Deputy Minister in charge of Infrastructure and several senior officials attended the discussions.

According to the Chadian minister, implementation of bilateral agreements is currently experiencing a “rapid dynamic,” with tangible progress recorded since the signing of accords on 22 April in Algiers, particularly through reciprocal technical visits and the launch of preparatory studies for the Trans-Saharan Highway project across Chadian territory.

The agreement notably paves the way for the initiation of detailed studies related to the execution of key segments of the Trans-Saharan road corridor, considered a strategic infrastructure axis for regional connectivity and economic integration.
