Algeria Strengthens Industrial Integration Drive to Cut Imports and Boost Local Production
BY Dr. Hana Saada
Algiers — Algeria’s ministries of Hydrocarbons, Industry, and Energy and Renewable Energies emphasized on Thursday the strategic importance of strengthening national industrial integration as part of efforts to reduce import dependence and enhance local production capacity, according to a joint statement.
The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Industry Yahia Bachir, and Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies Mourad Adjal co-chaired a coordination meeting held at the Ministry of Hydrocarbons headquarters, bringing together senior officials and representatives from key national companies.
These included Sonatrach, Sonelgaz, the steel pipe manufacturer Alfapipe, and the pump and valve producer Poval, the statement added.
The meeting focused on strengthening industrial cooperation between the three sectors and advancing partnerships among economic actors, in line with presidential directives aimed at promoting national industrial integration and leveraging domestic production capacities.
Discussions reviewed existing cooperation frameworks, particularly in the manufacturing of industrial equipment and installations, pipe production, and energy infrastructure, in addition to the development of national subcontracting and the increase of local integration rates in major industrial and energy projects.
Participants also examined new partnership initiatives designed to support national production for the hydrocarbons and energy sectors and to further integrate Algerian companies into industrial and energy value chains.
The ministers underlined the need for sustained coordination among the three sectors and their enterprises in order to build a “strong and competitive” national industrial base, anchored in the valorisation of domestic resources and the mobilisation of local expertise.
They further stressed the importance of accelerating strategic projects, supporting productive investment, and deepening industrial partnerships to advance industrial and energy sovereignty, create wealth and jobs, and contribute to sustainable economic development.
