Algeria explores pharmaceutical partnership with Chad as Saidal targets African expansion

By Dr. Hana Saada

Algeria is stepping up efforts to expand its pharmaceutical footprint in Africa, as a delegation of Chadian business leaders visits Algiers to explore partnership opportunities with local producers.

The delegation, active in the pharmaceutical industry, was received on Monday by Mourad Belkhelfa, chief executive of the state-owned Saidal Group, according to a company statement.

Talks, held at Saidal’s production site in El Harrach, focused on prospects for cooperation and the potential export of Algerian medicines to the Chadian market. Discussions highlighted the competitiveness of locally produced pharmaceuticals, particularly in terms of cost and effectiveness, as well as the specific needs of regional markets.

Mr Belkhelfa said the group aims to strengthen its international presence by building long-term partnerships with Chadian counterparts to ensure reliable access to medicines.

The visit forms part of Saidal’s broader strategy to expand into African markets and contribute to regional health security through increased availability of pharmaceutical products.
