The rector of Djamaa El-Djazair, Sheikh Mohamed Maâmoun Al Kacimi Al Hassani, received a delegation from the National Organisation of Children of Martyrs (ONEC), according to a statement.

During the meeting, Sheikh Al Kacimi said he was honoured to host the children of Algeria’s independence martyrs at a major religious and civilisational landmark. He stressed that they carry a “heavy and noble responsibility” to safeguard the legacy of those who were martyred in Algeria’s war of liberation, while highlighting the symbolism of the El Mohammadia site where the Grand Mosque is located.

He said loyalty to the martyrs’ oath is today expressed through the preservation of national achievements and foundational principles of the state, portraying Algeria as “united in land and people”, proud of its history and oriented towards the future while remaining anchored in its identity and values.

He urged members of ONEC to take pride in the legacy of their fathers, who made major sacrifices for national liberation.

ONEC Secretary-General Khalifa Semati, for his part, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to upholding the memory of the martyrs and preserving the pledge of 1 November 1954.

The delegation later toured the mosque’s facilities, where they were briefed on its role as a landmark combining architectural modernity and cultural heritage, and as a symbol of national memory and Algeria’s civilisational outreach.
