Algeria’s COSOB, Tunisia’s CMF step up anti-money laundering co-operation

Algeria’s stock market regulator, COSOB, and Tunisia’s Financial Market Council (CMF) have signed a roadmap to strengthen bilateral co-operation in combating money laundering, activating provisions set out in a 2015 memorandum of understanding.

The agreement was concluded on the sidelines of the 20th annual meeting of the Union of Arab Securities Authorities in Tunis, where COSOB chairman Youcef Bouzenada presided over the session. The gathering reviewed measures to deepen regional co-operation and bolster transparency and governance across Arab capital markets, and adopted the union’s 2026–2030 strategic plan.

The meeting also marked the handover of the rotating presidency to Tunisia for 2026–2027, following Algeria’s term in 2025–2026.

Founded in 2007, the Union of Arab Securities Authorities brings together regulators from 16 Arab countries to co-ordinate policy, share expertise and improve market efficiency through joint action.

The roadmap signals a shift from formal frameworks to operational alignment—testing whether closer regulatory co-ordination can translate into more effective financial oversight.
