Sayoud convenes governors to tighten coordination ahead of summer, exams and harvest

By Dr. Hana Saada

Interior minister Saïd Sayoud chaired a nationwide coordination meeting with provincial governors on Thursday, setting priorities for year-end exams, the summer season, wildfire prevention and the harvest campaign, according to a ministry statement.

Held by videoconference at the Government Palace and attended by civil defence chief Boualem Bourelaf, the meeting underscored a push for tighter oversight and continuous guidance to improve public service delivery.

Mr Sayoud called for full mobilisation to ensure the smooth conduct of national exams, stressing the need for secure, well-prepared environments for candidates and invigilators. He urged coordinated action across all provinces ahead of the summer season to improve beach cleanliness, eliminate pollution sources, guarantee water and electricity supply, and enhance transport and traffic management, while enforcing stricter oversight of coastal areas and curbing disorder.

On wildfire risks, he acknowledged existing efforts but pressed for stronger operational readiness, citing expanded civil defence capabilities, including an enhanced aerial fleet, alongside improved early detection and public awareness measures. He also instructed governors to maintain close field monitoring of the harvest campaign to ensure its success.

The minister emphasised the need for rigorous logistical preparation for upcoming legislative elections, backed by strengthened coordination with central services. He also ordered immediate action to address localised disruptions in drinking water supply, calling for a proactive approach based on field monitoring and rapid intervention.

The session concluded with directives to intensify coordination with security services, strengthen on-the-ground oversight and step up efforts to reduce road accidents—signalling a shift towards stricter execution across multiple fronts.
