Algeria Exports First Locally Manufactured Portable Air Conditioners to Europe as Condor Secures Major International Orders

Algeria has marked a major milestone in its non-hydrocarbon export strategy after launching its first shipment of locally manufactured portable air conditioners to the European market through Spain, while additional exports headed to Tunisia underline the country’s growing industrial competitiveness and expanding international footprint.

ALGIERS, Algeria — Algeria has taken a significant step forward in its strategy to diversify exports beyond hydrocarbons with the launch of its first shipment of locally manufactured portable air conditioners to the European market, alongside additional exports of fixed air-conditioning units to Tunisia.

The export operation was officially launched on Tuesday by Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Kamel Rezig, accompanied by Bordj Bou Arreridj Governor Kamel Nouicer, from the logistics platform of Condor Group, one of Algeria’s leading home appliance manufacturers.

The inaugural shipment, destined for Spain, represents the first commercial order placed by major European purchasing centers and distributors for Algerian-made portable air-conditioning units. At the same time, Condor exported split air-conditioning systems to Tunisia as part of a larger logistics operation comprising 46 shipping containers.

European demand accelerates

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch ceremony, Rezig revealed that Condor has already received export orders exceeding 250,000 portable air-conditioning units for European markets, reflecting growing international confidence in Algerian industrial products.

According to the minister, demand has surged amid the recent heatwaves affecting Southern Europe, while the Algerian products have successfully met European standards governing quality, safety and performance.

He stressed that the decision by major European retail purchasing centers to source Algerian-made air conditioners demonstrates the increasing competitiveness of the country’s manufacturing sector and aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s strategy of expanding non-hydrocarbon exports and diversifying the national economy.

Strategic logistics advantage

Officials highlighted Algeria’s geographical proximity to Europe as one of its strongest competitive advantages.

Unlike shipments from Asian suppliers, which can require more than five weeks to reach European markets, maritime transport from Algeria to southern European ports takes approximately 48 hours, allowing distributors to respond more rapidly to seasonal demand while significantly reducing shipping and storage costs.

This logistical advantage has become particularly valuable as European distributors seek faster supply chains during periods of exceptional demand.

Strengthening Algeria’s industrial footprint

Condor officials described the breakthrough as the culmination of years of investment in industrial modernization, research and development, product certification and compliance with international quality standards.

The company said it continues to expand its international presence, targeting more than 20 export markets across Africa, the Gulf region and Europe.

During the visit, authorities also supervised additional export operations involving refrigerators and freezers manufactured by other Algerian companies for regional markets, including Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania. They further inspected logistics facilities and railway infrastructure dedicated to freight transport serving the country’s industrial zones.

The latest export milestone reinforces Algeria’s efforts to position locally manufactured products as competitive alternatives in international supply chains, underscoring the country’s ambition to establish “Made in Algeria” as a trusted industrial brand in regional and global markets.
