Algeria highlights energy reliability and renewables expansion in talks with Belgian envoy

Energy and Renewable Energies Minister Mourad Adjal held talks in Algiers on Tuesday with Geert Muylle, Belgium’s special envoy for energy security and critical raw materials, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy supply security, according to a ministry statement.
The meeting, attended by a delegation of Belgian business representatives, reviewed Algeria’s role as a reliable partner in regional and international energy security and its ongoing strategy to diversify its energy mix.
Adjal outlined key national projects and policy priorities, highlighting expansion of renewable energy capacity. He cited a 15,000 MW renewable programme under development, including an initial 3,200 MW phase under execution, alongside projects in green hydrogen, solar and wind power.
Belgian operators expressed interest in developing cooperation with Algerian partners in power generation infrastructure, equipment supply, and digital and grid management technologies, under ministerial oversight.
Belgium’s ambassador to Algeria, Jean-Jacques Quairiat, welcomed Algeria’s efforts to reinforce energy security at national and regional levels and reaffirmed Brussels’ interest in expanding cooperation in the sector.
