ALGIERS — Algeria and Kenya have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, following talks held on Monday in Algiers between Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry Ouacim Kouidri and Kenya’s Secretary of State for Trade at the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, Regina Akoth Ombam.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry, the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral partnership mechanisms and exploring new avenues of cooperation in pharmaceutical production and industrial integration between the two countries.

The talks reviewed prospects for expanding cooperation, including the possibility of Kenya benefiting from Algerian expertise in the production of innovative and biological medicines compliant with international standards. Both sides also discussed ways to encourage Algerian economic operators to invest in Kenya through the establishment of pharmaceutical production units, with the aim of facilitating technology transfer and strengthening Africa-wide industrial integration.

Kouidri reiterated Algeria’s readiness to support this cooperation framework, whether through the export of locally produced medicines or through joint investment projects designed to serve mutual interests and reinforce bilateral ties.

Institutionally, the minister called for the establishment of a memorandum of understanding between Algeria’s National Agency for Pharmaceutical Products (ANPP) and its Kenyan counterpart, in order to deepen regulatory cooperation and enhance the exchange of expertise between the two sides.
