Niger’s Mines Minister Begins Working Visit to Algeria to Boost Bilateral Mining Cooperation
BY Dr. Hana Saada
ALGIERS — Niger’s Minister of Mines, Commissioner Colonel Abarchi Ousmane, is set to begin a two-day working visit to Algeria on Tuesday, aimed at advancing bilateral cooperation in the mining sector and assessing new investment and partnership opportunities between the two countries.
According to a statement issued Monday by the Ministry of Mines and Mining Industry, the visit falls within the framework of implementing agreements and resolutions stemming from the Algerian-Nigerien Joint High Commission. It is expected to serve as a platform for reviewing cooperation prospects in strategic areas of mutual interest.
The discussions between the Nigerien official and Algeria’s Minister of Mines, Mourad Hanifi, alongside the Secretary of State in charge of Mines, will focus on several priority axes, including the exchange of expertise in mineral exploration, geological mapping, and professional training.
The ministry underlined that the visit reflects a “shared and clearly expressed commitment” by both countries to strengthening stability and advancing economic integration within the sub-Saharan African region. It also highlights the historical ties of fraternity and cooperation between Algiers and Niamey, particularly in the field of mineral resources.
The programme includes working sessions and consultations with executives from major public enterprises and agencies under the supervision of the ministry. At the conclusion of the visit, both parties are expected to establish a joint roadmap to implement and operationalise the outcomes of their discussions and agreed priorities.
