Tradifoot Targets Two Million Skechers Shoes Output in Algeria Under Landmark Industrial Partnership
BY Dr. Hana Saada
ALGIERS — Tradifoot, the Algerian company active in industrial partnerships with global footwear brands, has outlined an ambitious production roadmap with the American sportswear giant Skechers, targeting the local manufacture of up to two million pairs of shoes annually in the medium term, according to its Chief Executive Officer, Walid Benahmed.
Speaking to the press following the signing of a partnership agreement with Skechers, Benahmed described the deal as a strategic milestone aimed at strengthening Algeria’s domestic manufacturing base while gradually positioning the country as a competitive export hub for regional and international markets.
He said the agreement marks the launch of a phased industrial project in Algeria under the Skechers brand, with initial production scheduled to begin in 2027. The medium-term objective, he added, is to reach an annual output of two million pairs of shoes, with a strong focus on expanding exports toward African, Arab and European markets.
Benahmed emphasised that the project goes beyond simple assembly operations, presenting it as part of a broader effort to build a sustainable industrial ecosystem capable of attracting additional international brands and reinforcing Algeria’s positioning as an emerging regional manufacturing platform.
He also noted that the agreement was concluded under the supervision and support of the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, who, according to him, encouraged the company to advance in this industrial orientation and strengthen partnerships with global operators.
Looking ahead, Benahmed expressed hope that the Skechers partnership would serve as a catalyst for the development of a broader industrial textile and footwear cluster in Algeria, stressing that the country possesses the human capital and material resources necessary to support such transformation.
He concluded that the long-term objective is to re-establish Algeria as a production and export-oriented industrial base, in line with its historical manufacturing capacity, while integrating global brands into local value chains.
