AMMAN — Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held talks on Monday in Amman with Mohamed Ali Nafti, Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, on the sidelines of the Arab consultative ministerial meeting and the resumed 165th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at ministerial level.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions reviewed the “remarkable momentum” characterising bilateral relations, in line with the implementation of the outcomes of the 23rd session of the Algerian-Tunisian Joint High Commission held in December 2025 in Tunis. The two sides particularly highlighted cooperation in trade, tourism, transport and energy, while also addressing preparations for upcoming bilateral milestones.

The talks also provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, notably developments in Libya, as well as security and cooperation dynamics in the Mediterranean basin.

In a separate meeting, Attaf held discussions with Taher Al-Baour, the acting head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Libya’s Government of National Unity. The exchanges focused on the latest developments in Libya’s ongoing political settlement process, as well as the challenges and obstacles facing progress at various levels.

Attaf also met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, where both sides reviewed the historical ties between Algeria and Iraq and explored ways to elevate cooperation across strategic sectors, particularly energy and culture. They also underlined the importance of activating bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the joint commission, and advancing upcoming institutional milestones.

The discussions further covered a range of regional and international issues, including developments in the Middle East and the Gulf region. Both ministers welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States, stressing its positive implications for regional stability and security.
