Algeria launches General Plastic Injection unit in Tissemsilt to deepen auto integration drive
BY Dr. Hana Saada
Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb on Wednesday launched the “General Plastic Injection” (GPI) industrial unit in Tissemsilt, a project aimed at strengthening local production of automotive components and reducing import dependence.
The launch, carried out during a working visit to the province on instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was accompanied by Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud and Industry Minister Yahia Bachir. The facility is located in the Sidi Mansour industrial zone in Khemisti and spans more than 107,000 square metres.
Authorities said the project is part of a wider national strategy to revive confiscated assets and reintegrate them into productive activity, with the objective of turning previously seized holdings into job-creating industrial assets and reinforcing national value chains.
The unit is intended to supply plastic components for the automotive sector, supporting efforts to raise local integration levels and build a more self-sufficient industrial ecosystem. Officials said the initiative would help reduce import bills while improving the resilience of the domestic car industry.
The visit also included discussions on industrial partnerships and technology transfer agreements designed to accelerate localisation and align production standards with international benchmarks. The Prime Minister reviewed implementation phases of the project with economic operators and senior officials.
