According to a statement issued by Algeria’s Directorate General of Customs (DGD), the agreement was formalized through the signing of official minutes at the commission’s meeting, which took place on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Libyan Customs Authority.
The discussions reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to deepening institutional cooperation and operational coordination while advancing mechanisms designed to serve their shared interests, reinforce border security and safeguard the national economies of both nations.
Expanding operational cooperation
The commission reviewed a number of strategic issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on activating the existing administrative customs cooperation agreement between the two countries.
Participants also assessed the movement of goods and means of transport across the Algerian-Libyan border, examining ways to facilitate customs procedures while ensuring effective regulatory oversight.
A central focus of the meeting was strengthening bilateral cooperation in combating smuggling and various forms of transnational organized crime, reflecting the shared commitment of both customs administrations to enhancing border management and regional security.
Training and exchange of expertise
The agreement also provides for expanded cooperation in customs training, professional capacity building and the exchange of technical expertise, with the objective of improving institutional capabilities and aligning operational practices between the two administrations.
According to the Directorate General of Customs, the meeting reflects the growing momentum of Algerian-Libyan cooperation in customs affairs and underscores the determination of both countries to develop practical mechanisms that facilitate legitimate trade while strengthening customs enforcement and protecting their respective economic interests.
