Social media calls for nationwide protests on 7 August have emerged in Morocco following a surge in irregular migration to Spain’s Ceuta enclave, as mounting economic hardship and public frustration fuel online mobilization.

MOROCCO- The migration surge from Morocco toward the Spanish enclave of Ceuta has coincided with the emergence of online calls for nationwide demonstrations in Morocco on 7 August, under the hashtag #ثورة_7_غشت_في_المغرب – #Morocco_August7_Revolution. The campaign, circulating across multiple social media platforms, urges citizens to take part in protests against governance, corruption, and deteriorating socio-economic conditions.
The online mobilisation follows scenes of large numbers of Moroccan migrants attempting to reach the Spanish city of Ceuta by sea, a development that has intensified public debate over unemployment, poverty, and rising living costs. The protest calls encourage demonstrators to gather in public spaces and outside government institutions, while some posts advocate demonstrations near royal palaces and call for political change.
The campaign has gained momentum as reports point to growing economic hardship and mounting social frustration in parts of the country. It also comes after several fatal incidents linked to irregular migration attempts, including drownings involving children and entire families seeking to reach Spain’s shores.
