By Dr. Hana Saada
ALGIERS — Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman have discussed expanding cooperation in hydrocarbons and petrochemicals, with a particular focus on joint investments, fertiliser production and specialised energy services, during talks held in Algiers between Minister of State and Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab and Sheikh Saad Suhail Bahwan, Chairman of Oman’s Suhail Bahwan Holding Group.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Hydrocarbons, the meeting reviewed existing cooperation between Sonatrach and Suhail Bahwan Holding and examined prospects for broadening collaboration, particularly in fertiliser projects involving ammonia and urea production.
The discussions also explored opportunities to increase Omani investment in Algeria and accelerate the development of joint projects capable of generating greater industrial and commercial value. Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening technical consultations and commercial exchanges between Sonatrach and the Omani group to advance future cooperation initiatives.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Algeria, Saif Rashid Al-Badaai, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons.
Separately, Arkab and the Omani ambassador reviewed cooperation between Sonatrach and Abraj Energy Services, particularly within the framework of a memorandum of understanding covering the assessment of partnership opportunities in drilling operations, well maintenance and specialised oilfield services.
The talks also addressed integrated project services, technical knowledge transfer, professional training and the exchange of expertise across multiple segments of the hydrocarbons industry.
At the conclusion of the discussions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic cooperation and investment ties between Algeria and Oman, while supporting the expansion of partnerships between Sonatrach and Omani companies in pursuit of shared strategic and economic interests.
