BOUMERDÈS — Algeria on Sunday inaugurated a new video surveillance centre in the coastal wilaya of Boumerdès, expanding the country’s digital policing capabilities as part of a broader programme to modernize public security infrastructure and enhance operational efficiency.

The facility was inaugurated by Director General of National Security Ali Badaoui, accompanied by Boumerdès governor Fouzia Naâma, during ceremonies marking the 64th anniversary of the establishment of the Algerian National Police.

According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the centre forms part of an ongoing strategy to modernize policing through the deployment of advanced technologies aimed at strengthening public safety and supporting operational decision-making.

The surveillance network comprises 387 cameras installed across major roads, public spaces and beaches throughout the wilaya. Operating in real time, the system is designed to support field units by improving traffic management, facilitating rapid operational responses and assisting efforts to prevent crime and maintain public order.

Authorities said the centre will also contribute to more effective management of daily security operations through continuous monitoring and enhanced coordination between command structures and units deployed on the ground.

Speaking during the inauguration, Boumerdès Police Chief Azzedine Tamine described the project as an important step in the digital transformation of policing, saying it represents “a significant transition in the modern management of the security system” and strengthens the sustainability of public security across the province.

Tamine said the centre constitutes “a qualitative addition” to the National Police’s operational capabilities and provides an important security asset for Boumerdès residents. He added that the project aligns with the state’s broader policy of modernizing public institutions and improving the quality and efficiency of public services.

He further described the facility as a milestone in the modernization of Algeria’s security system, noting that it enhances the management of security resources while reinforcing mechanisms for the protection of people and property through the integration of digital technologies into policing operations.

The inauguration reflects the DGSN’s continued investment in smart security infrastructure as Algeria expands the use of digital technologies to strengthen law enforcement capabilities and improve public safety nationwide.
