Algiers — Algerian Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies Mourad Adjal received Chadian Minister of Water and Energy Bassali Kanabé Marcelin and a delegation from Chad’s state electricity utility Tchad Elec as part of bilateral cooperation surrounding a 40-megawatt power plant project to be implemented in Chad.

The visit included a meeting with 12 Chadian trainees at the management training school affiliated with Sonelgaz, ahead of their enrolment in a four-week specialised programme at the Adrar School of Electricity and Gas Professions aimed at preparing technical personnel for the operation of power facilities Algeria is set to deliver in Chad.

Adjal reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to ensuring the success of the training programme and transferring Algerian operational expertise to Chadian energy cadres, while also reviewing reception and accommodation conditions provided to the trainees.

Marcelin praised the organisational arrangements and rapid handling of the delegation and trainees upon arrival in Algeria, underscoring Chad’s interest in expanding practical cooperation with Algerian energy institutions.

The Chadian delegation, accompanied by Sonelgaz executives, also toured the National Electricity System Management Centre, where officials were briefed on the technologies and operational mechanisms governing Algeria’s national power grid. Delegates expressed interest in the advanced systems deployed within the strategic infrastructure.

The programme further included a visit to Sonelgaz headquarters, featuring presentations on the group’s activities across electricity and gas generation, transmission and distribution, in addition to industrial manufacturing operations linked to electrical and gas equipment through SAIG.

Chadian representatives ultimately reiterated their interest in establishing an operational partnership with Algeria capable of supporting Chad’s energy development objectives within the broader framework of bilateral cooperation between the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Tchad Elec.
