Algeria–US Talks Step Up Strategic Dialogue Across Key Sectors

Algeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held talks on Tuesday in Algiers with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, who is on an official visit, as both sides moved to deepen a relationship marked by expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
The meeting began with a one-to-one session before widening to include delegations from both countries. Discussions reviewed what officials described as a “notable momentum” in bilateral relations and explored avenues to further strengthen engagement through enhanced strategic dialogue and a more consolidated partnership.
Priority areas identified during the talks included energy, investment, innovation, trade, agriculture, air transport and higher education—sectors seen as central to broadening the scope and depth of cooperation between Algiers and Washington.
The exchange also extended to regional and international issues of shared concern, notably developments in the Sahel-Saharan region and the evolution of the political process aimed at resolving the Western Sahara question.
The talks underscored a mutual intent to translate diplomatic momentum into structured, sector-led cooperation with wider regional implications.
