Belgium Seeks Deeper Energy Cooperation with Algeria as Arkab Holds Talks with Special Envoy

Belgium has expressed interest in expanding energy cooperation with Algeria during talks in Algiers between Minister of State for Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab and Belgian special envoy for energy security Geert Muylle, accompanied by a business delegation, according to a ministry statement.
Discussions covered potential partnerships between Sonatrach and Belgian firms across oil and gas value chains, particularly refining and petrochemicals, as well as trade in natural gas, LPG and petroleum products.
Both sides also reviewed investment frameworks, technology transfer and industrial cooperation, with a focus on local content and advanced technologies. Exploration and resource development opportunities were also discussed.
Arkab reaffirmed Algeria’s approach to partnership based on mutual benefit and knowledge transfer. Muylle said Belgium was keen to strengthen energy ties and expand investment in priority sectors.
