ALGIERS, Algeria — Algeria’s People’s National Army (ANP) has killed two terrorists in Chlef and arrested six supporters of terrorist groups during a series of nationwide security operations carried out between July 22 and July 28, according to the military’s weekly operational report released on Wednesday.

The operations, conducted across multiple military regions, formed part of the ANP’s ongoing counterterrorism campaign and broader efforts to combat organized crime, drug trafficking, smuggling and irregular migration.

According to the statement, army units, operating in coordination with the country’s security services, neutralized the two terrorists in the military sector of Chlef, located within the First Military Region. During the operation, forces recovered two Kalashnikov assault rifles, quantities of ammunition and various military equipment.

The military also announced the arrest of six individuals accused of providing logistical support to terrorist groups during separate operations conducted across the national territory.

Major anti-drug operations

The operational report highlighted significant results in the fight against organized crime and narcotics trafficking.

Joint army detachments, working alongside various security agencies, arrested 32 suspected drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 97 kilograms of cannabis resin across Algeria’s western border with Morocco.

Security forces also seized 50 kilograms of cocaine and 780,519 psychotropic tablets during operations carried out across several military regions.

Illegal mining and smuggling disrupted

In southern Algeria, army units operating in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and In Guezzam arrested 151 individuals involved in illegal gold mining activities.

The operations led to the seizure of 23 vehicles, 59 power generators, 44 jackhammers, quantities of raw gold ore and stones, in addition to equipment used in unauthorized gold extraction.

Elsewhere, security forces arrested nine additional suspects and confiscated 6,720 liters of fuel and four tonnes of food products intended for smuggling activities.

Irregular migration attempts intercepted

The ANP also reported that the Coast Guard foiled several attempts at illegal maritime migration along Algeria’s coastline, rescuing 153 individuals aboard makeshift boats.

Meanwhile, authorities arrested 212 irregular migrants of various nationalities during operations conducted across the country.

The military stated that the results demonstrate the professionalism, vigilance and operational readiness of Algeria’s armed forces as they continue efforts to safeguard national security, combat terrorism, dismantle organized criminal networks and secure the country’s borders.
