Algeria Inaugurates Three Police Facilities to Expand Security and Welfare Infrastructure

New operational, healthcare and surveillance facilities form part of a broader effort to strengthen policing capabilities and support services as Algeria marks the 64th anniversary of its National Police.

ALGIERS — Algeria on Sunday inaugurated three new police facilities, including a regional security headquarters, a medical and social centre and a video surveillance hub, as part of a broader programme to expand security infrastructure and improve services for police personnel.

The facilities were inaugurated by Director General of National Security Ali Badaoui during ceremonies marking the 64th anniversary of the establishment of the Algerian National Police, according to a statement issued by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The projects comprise the headquarters of the First Regional Grouping of Republican Security Units in El Hamiz, named after police commissioner and martyr of national duty Touat Mohamed Taha Hussein, the Dendani Saâd Saoud Medical and Social Centre in Aïn Taya, and a new video surveillance centre serving the wilaya of Boumerdès.

The DGSN said the investments form part of its long-term strategy to strengthen operational capabilities while expanding healthcare and social services for serving and retired police officers and their beneficiaries.

The El Hamiz complex was designed as an integrated operational base incorporating administrative offices, accommodation facilities, a medical centre, training and sports infrastructure, a firing range, logistics facilities and vehicle support services to enhance the deployment capacity of the Republican Security Units.

Badaoui also inaugurated the medical and social centre in Aïn Taya, which operates under the DGSN’s Directorate of Health, Social Affairs and Sports Activities. The facility will provide general medical care, dental services, laboratory testing and psychological support for police personnel and their families.

The centre is staffed by general practitioners, dentists, laboratory specialists, nurses and a clinical psychologist. Authorities said additional services, including radiology, ophthalmology and ear, nose and throat consultations, are expected to be introduced as part of a planned expansion.

Separately, the new surveillance centre in Boumerdès will support policing operations through real-time monitoring using an integrated network of surveillance systems aimed at improving operational coordination and public security.

Police Commissioner Amir Chergui, head of the communications unit at the Algiers Police Directorate, said the new facilities are intended to improve the quality of healthcare, social support and working conditions available to members of the police force while strengthening the institution’s operational readiness.

The inauguration reflects the DGSN’s continuing investment in security infrastructure as Algeria expands the use of modern technologies and specialised facilities to support law enforcement operations and improve public service delivery nationwide.
