APN Speaker Boughali Says Legislative Elections Reinforce State Credibility and National Continuity

ALGIERS — People’s National Assembly (APN) Speaker Brahim Boughali cast his ballot on Thursday in Algeria’s legislative elections, describing voter participation as a key factor in strengthening the credibility of state institutions while calling on citizens to uphold the legacy of the country’s liberation generation through democratic engagement.

Boughali voted at Mohamed Khemisti Primary School in the municipality of Bordj El Bahri, east of Algiers, joining millions of Algerians participating in the nationwide ballot to elect the 407 members of the People’s National Assembly. The elections involve more than 24.7 million registered voters, including 854,285 Algerians residing abroad, and are being conducted under the supervision of the National Independent Election Authority (ANIE).

Speaking to journalists after casting his ballot, Boughali said the legislative elections represent an important opportunity to reinforce the credibility and legitimacy of Algeria’s constitutional institutions.

He said he had fulfilled his electoral duty “like all Algerians who are proud to belong to this nation and who place the interests of the country above every other consideration.”

Boughali added that participation in the legislative elections enables Algerians to remain faithful to the legacy of the country’s martyrs and veterans of the War of Independence while contributing to the continuation of Algeria’s national development process.

The APN Speaker also welcomed President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s decision to establish new wilayas, describing the measure as an important step toward broadening parliamentary representation and strengthening territorial inclusion within the country’s institutional framework.

According to Boughali, the creation of additional provinces offers local communities greater opportunities to elect representatives capable of defending regional interests and ensuring that development priorities are reflected within the national legislature.

Algeria’s legislative elections are being held to renew the 407-seat People’s National Assembly, with 793 electoral lists and 9,854 candidates contesting seats across the country’s domestic constituencies, alongside 54 electoral lists representing the Algerian community abroad. Preliminary results are expected to be announced by ANIE within 48 hours following the completion of vote counting, before the Constitutional Court certifies the final outcome after examining any electoral appeals.
