Business Climate in Algeria: AAPI Chief Outlines Key Investment Reforms to IMF Mission

ALGIERS — Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), presented to a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) the reforms undertaken by Algeria to improve the country’s business climate, simplify investment procedures, and enhance its attractiveness as an investment destination.
The presentation took place on Sunday in Algiers as part of the IMF’s annual consultations with the Algerian authorities. The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Bank of Algeria and senior officials from the AAPI.
Investment Performance and Reform Agenda Presented
According to a statement issued by the Agency, Rekkache outlined the government’s ongoing reforms aimed at streamlining administrative procedures and strengthening investor support mechanisms. The presentation focused on several key initiatives, including the restructuring of the one-stop investment shop, the digitalisation of investment-related services, and measures to improve transparency in the management of economic land.
The AAPI Director General also reviewed Algeria’s recent investment performance and highlighted the momentum recorded across various sectors of the economy. He presented an overview of major strategic projects currently under implementation in different regions of the country, within the framework of the state’s efforts to diversify the national economy and promote balanced regional development.
Economic Reforms and Business Environment Discussed
The meeting also provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on Algeria’s broader economic reform programme and the measures being implemented to enhance the business environment.
According to the Agency, AAPI officials exchanged views with IMF experts on the legal and institutional framework governing investment in Algeria, as well as the system of guarantees available to economic operators.
The IMF delegation concluded its visit with a tour of the One-Stop Shop for Major Projects and Foreign Investments, where it received detailed briefings on the facility’s operations and its role in supporting investors and facilitating the implementation of investment projects.
