ALGIERS — Amel Abdellatif, Algeria’s Minister of Interior Trade and National Market Regulation, met on Sunday in Algiers with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to review the economic reforms being implemented by the ministry as part of the country’s efforts to strengthen market governance and improve the business environment.

The IMF delegation was led by the Fund’s Mission Chief for Algeria, Charalambos Tsangarides, as part of the IMF’s periodic consultations with the Algerian authorities conducted under Article IV of the Fund’s Articles of Agreement, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

Market Organisation and Business Climate Reforms Reviewed

The meeting provided an opportunity to examine the reforms undertaken by the Ministry of Interior Trade in the areas of market organisation, transparency, and business climate improvement.

According to the ministry, discussions focused on measures designed to simplify procedures for establishing and operating commercial businesses, while expanding the range of services provided to economic operators as part of the government’s broader administrative modernisation programme.

Strengthening Market Regulation and Combating Illicit Practices

Minister Abdellatif also outlined the mechanisms adopted to regulate the national market and reinforce monitoring systems for markets and strategic stockpiles.

The discussions further covered efforts to strengthen Algeria’s economic control system, alongside measures aimed at combating speculation and illegal commercial practices in order to safeguard market stability and ensure greater transparency in commercial activity.

The meeting forms part of the IMF’s regular consultations with Algeria on economic policy developments and structural reform initiatives.
