Legislative Elections: Mobile Polling Stations to Begin Deployment Monday in Béchar
BY Dr. Hana Saada
BECHAR — The first two mobile polling stations in the southern wilaya of Béchar are scheduled to depart on Monday from the border municipality of Béni Ounif, located 110 kilometres north of the provincial capital, to reach remote nomadic communities ahead of Algeria’s legislative elections scheduled for 2 July.
According to the local delegation of the National Independent Election Authority (ANIE), the mobile polling stations will travel to the dispersed and nomadic areas of Oued Namous and Zousfana, enabling 1,680 registered voters to cast their ballots under appropriate conditions 72 hours before polling day, in accordance with the provisions of the electoral law.
Early Deployment to Reach Remote Communities
The coordinator of the local ANIE delegation, Abdelkrim Benmansour, said all material, logistical and human resources required for the operation had been mobilised to ensure the smooth conduct of the voting process.
He explained that the considerable distance separating these nomadic areas from urban centres necessitates the early departure of electoral convoys in order to comply with the deadlines established by the electoral legislation.
Additional Mobile Polling Stations to Follow
Two additional mobile polling stations will leave on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively to serve voters living in the remote and nomadic areas of the municipalities of Béchar and Abadla. These stations are expected to enable a further 554 registered voters to exercise their electoral rights under suitable conditions.
More Than 187,000 Registered Voters in Béchar
According to ANIE, the electoral roll in Béchar comprises 187,362 registered voters, including 71,217 women and 116,145 men. The electorate also includes 259 newly registered voters, consisting of 70 women and 189 men.
Voting across the wilaya will take place through 63 polling centres and 437 polling stations, including four mobile polling stations designated to serve remote communities.
To oversee the electoral process, 3,300 personnel will be deployed across the wilaya’s polling centres and stations, according to the local ANIE delegation.
