MONTREAL — Algeria’s State Secretary in charge of the National Community Abroad on Monday began a working visit to Canada with a meeting in Montreal with members of the Algerian diaspora.
Secretary of State Sofiane Chaib held an interactive session with Algerian nationals in the Montreal consular district, with participation via videoconference from Algiers of Minister Noureddine Ouadah, in the presence of the ambassador of Algeria in Ottawa and the consul general.
The meeting focused on strengthening the contribution of Algerian skills and expertise established in Canada to national development, with officials describing the diaspora as a strategic pillar in the process of building a “new Algeria.”
Chaib underlined political measures related to diaspora representation, including increased parliamentary seats allocated to Algerians abroad, with two seats assigned to the American continent.
He reviewed state measures targeting citizens abroad, including the continuation of consular service digitalisation, simplification of procedures, and improvement of public service delivery, as well as initiatives to mobilise Algerian expertise abroad in national development.
Ouadah presented measures aimed at strengthening the start-up ecosystem and innovation environment in Algeria, including facilitation mechanisms and investment incentives for Algerians abroad.
At the end of the meeting, Chaib referred to strong patriotic attachment within the Algerian community in Canada and state commitment to accompany citizens abroad and address their concerns.
