Chaib Meets Algerian Community in Qatar, Highlights Role of Diaspora in Strengthening Bilateral Ties
BY Dr. Hana Saada
DOHA – Sofiane Chaib, Algeria’s Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, met on Saturday with members of the Algerian community residing in Qatar as part of his working visit to the Gulf state.
The meeting, attended by Algeria’s ambassador to Qatar, Salah Attia, forms part of Algeria’s broader efforts to strengthen engagement with its diaspora and enhance communication with Algerian nationals living abroad.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chaib commended the growing presence of the Algerian community in Qatar, noting its significant expansion in recent years and highlighting the increasing number of Algerian professionals and experts working across a range of specialised sectors.
He said the achievements of Algerian professionals in Qatar reflect positively on the country’s international image and demonstrate the ability of Algerian talent to excel and innovate across diverse fields.
Chaib also praised the contribution of the Algerian community to strengthening ties of friendship and cooperation between Algeria and Qatar through their professional, scientific and academic activities.
He noted that these efforts support the positive momentum in Algerian-Qatari relations and contribute to enhancing communication and cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Chaib reviewed a series of measures introduced by Algerian authorities to improve services for citizens abroad, including the modernisation and digitalisation of consular services, the simplification of administrative procedures and the enhancement of mechanisms for addressing the concerns of Algerian nationals overseas.
He said these initiatives are aimed at strengthening the attachment of younger generations to their country of origin and reinforcing their sense of national identity.
Chaib reaffirmed the Algerian government’s commitment to supporting its citizens abroad and recognising their contributions to national development, while encouraging greater engagement with Algeria’s economic, scientific and cultural initiatives.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for an interactive exchange with members of the community, allowing participants to raise concerns, share proposals and discuss issues of common interest.
Prior to the gathering, Chaib visited the future headquarters of the Algerian Cultural Centre in Doha, whose official opening is scheduled in the coming months following the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 02/26 of 7 January 2026 establishing the institution.
The visit enabled him to review preparations for the launch of the centre’s activities and assess its facilities and infrastructure.
According to the ministry, the cultural centre will serve as a platform for promoting Algerian culture and showcasing the country’s diverse heritage, while also providing a dedicated space for the Algerian community in Qatar to strengthen its ties with its homeland and participate in cultural and community initiatives.
