Djamaa El-Djazair Rector Casts Vote, Says Electoral Participation Reflects Civic Responsibility and Strengthens State Institutions

BY Dr. Hana Saada

ALGIERS — Algeria’s Minister of State and Rector of Djamaa El-Djazair, Cheikh Mohamed Maâmoun Al Kacimi Al Hassani, cast his ballot on Thursday in the country’s legislative elections, describing electoral participation as both a civic responsibility and a reflection of citizens’ commitment to strengthening state institutions and promoting the public good.

Al Kacimi Al Hassani voted as millions of Algerians participated in elections to renew the 407-seat People’s National Assembly (APN). The legislative vote is being held across 69 electoral constituencies, with more than 24.7 million registered voters, including 854,285 Algerians residing abroad, under the supervision of the National Independent Election Authority (ANIE).

Speaking to the press after voting, the Minister of State said he had participated in the elections alongside his colleagues out of the conviction that informed and responsible participation represents a fulfilment of civic duty and contributes to consolidating the institutions upon which the interests of both the nation and its citizens are built.

He described elections as a hallmark of civilised political practice that reflects citizens’ awareness of their responsibilities and their belief that nation-building is a shared undertaking requiring the contribution of all members of society.

Al Kacimi Al Hassani stressed the importance of supporting Algeria’s institutional path, arguing that electoral participation reinforces the country’s constitutional framework and strengthens the foundations of public governance.

He also expressed confidence that Algerian citizens would demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility by placing the country’s higher national interest above all other considerations while remaining faithful to the values that encourage diversity of opinion as a source of complementarity, cooperation and national cohesion rather than division.

Concluding his remarks, the Rector of Djamaa El-Djazair prayed for the continued security, unity and stability of Algeria, expressing hope that the country and its people would continue to advance in the service of the nation and the common good.

The legislative elections feature 9,854 candidates representing 793 electoral lists competing for 407 parliamentary seats, with the National Independent Election Authority (ANIE) expected to announce provisional results within 48 hours of the completion of vote counting before the Constitutional Court certifies the final results after examining any electoral appeals.
