Tebboune calls for “global strategic partnership” with Angola following state talks in Algiers

ALGIERS — Algeria and Angola agreed on Monday to elevate their bilateral relationship toward a “global strategic partnership,” following high-level talks in the capital between President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Angolan counterpart João Lourenço.
In a joint press statement, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said the visit allowed both sides to review the state of bilateral cooperation and outline prospects for its expansion, describing the discussions as “rich” and focused on strengthening strategic alignment.
Tebboune affirmed that both countries reiterated their political will to lay the foundations of a comprehensive partnership, rooted in historical ties dating back to the anti-colonial liberation struggle shared by African nations.
He indicated that both sides agreed to broaden cooperation across hydrocarbons, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, digitalisation, renewable energy, health and training, alongside enhanced mechanisms for expert exchange through joint institutional frameworks.
The Algerian president noted that cooperation would be further structured through a joint commission and a bilateral business council, formally established during the visit in a ceremony co-chaired by both heads of state.
He underlined that the council is intended to function as a permanent platform for promoting structured economic partnerships between operators in both countries.
Tebboune also reiterated Algeria’s readiness to support Angola’s development efforts, particularly in the training of cadres and capacity-building initiatives.
