ALGIERS — Combined detachments of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) have arrested five suspected drug traffickers and seized more than 45 kilograms of cocaine during counter-narcotics operations conducted in the military sectors of Adrar, Béchar and Timimoune in Algeria’s Third Military Region, the Ministry of National Defence said on Sunday.
According to a ministry statement, the operations formed part of the ANP’s ongoing campaign against organised crime and drug trafficking, particularly along the country’s southwestern border.
The military said forces seized 45 kilograms and 357 grams of cocaine, 59,997 psychotropic tablets, and four passenger vehicles used in drug trafficking operations.
The ministry said the operation reflects the ANP’s continued efforts to combat organised criminal networks and safeguard national security.
It added that the results underscore the close coordination among the various branches of the Algerian People’s National Army in carrying out operations aimed at ensuring public security and protecting citizens.
