Algeria, Djibouti Move Towards Bilateral Cultural Cooperation Agreement
Algeria and Djibouti are preparing a bilateral cultural cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening collaboration in heritage preservation, artistic training, theatre and cinema, while expanding academic exchanges and institutional partnerships.

ALGIERS — Algeria and Djibouti are advancing plans to strengthen cultural ties through a bilateral cooperation agreement that will establish a legal framework for joint initiatives across heritage preservation, artistic training, theatre and cinema.
The initiative was discussed during a meeting in Algiers on Saturday between Minister of Culture and Arts Malika Bendouda and Djibouti’s Minister of Youth and Culture Fardoussa Moussa Egueh, according to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Culture and Arts.
Both sides agreed on the importance of drafting a cooperation agreement between the two ministries to formalise bilateral collaboration and facilitate the implementation of joint cultural and artistic programmes.
The talks also provided an opportunity to review ways of expanding cultural and artistic exchanges, with the two ministers reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations in line with the longstanding fraternal ties between Algeria and Djibouti.
Priority areas identified for future cooperation include theatre, cinema and professional training across a range of cultural and artistic disciplines. The proposed partnership would also enable Djiboutian students to benefit from academic and professional training programmes offered by institutions operating under Algeria’s Ministry of Culture and Arts.
The discussions further explored Algeria’s support for Djibouti in preserving and promoting its cultural heritage, particularly rock art, drawing on Algeria’s recognised expertise in the protection, conservation and enhancement of archaeological and cultural heritage sites.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to maintain close coordination by appointing focal points within their respective ministries to oversee the implementation of future initiatives and elevate cultural cooperation to reflect the privileged relations between the two countries.
